Register Your Nickname as Alternative First Name with SC Real Estate Commission

A licensee can now register an alternative first name through the SC Real Estate Commission allowing him/her to use their alternative name on marketing materials such as yard signs, business cards, website, and social media. Once registered, the alternative name can be used in place of their legal first name. No quotation marks are required around the alternative name on marketing materials.

Example: William Jones has registered Bill as his alternative first name. He may use Bill Jones on marketing materials and does not need to additionally include William.

A Licensee must use their legal last name in identifying himself/herself. Whether the licensee uses their actual first name or the registered alternative name, the licensee must continue to use their legal last name in all marketing materials.

Once the licensee registers their alternative name with the Commission, the licensee's information can be pulled up on the Commission's database using their legal first name, registered alternative name, or legal last name.

A licensee can use their registered alternative first name on some documentation and their legal first name on others.

Example: William Jones has registered Bill as his alternative first name. He can use Bill Jones on his email signature but sign paperwork as William Jones.

Avoid power of attorney.
